As young as age six, Ashima Shiraishi began climbing in Umpire Rock, located in Manhattan, with her parents. She will later advance to climbing at Brooklyn Boulders in Brooklyn.
About a year after young Ashima Shiraishi embraced climbing, she began competing competitively under the tutelage of accomplished climber Obe Carrion.
Under the guidance of Obe Carrion, Ashima Shiraishi’s climbing prowess improved significantly, which led her to scale the Power of Boulder, a V10 boulder problem located in Hueco Tanks, Texas, at the age of 8.
As she advanced in age, she consistently climbed more challenging boulder problems, such as her Roger in the Shower (rated V11) climb at age 9, notably her Crown of Aragorn (V13) ascent.
Ashima Shiraishi’s ascent of the V13 Crown of Aragorn boulder problem made her the youngest climber to ascend the height and one of the very few female climbers to ascend a confirmed V13 route.
By age 11, Ashima Shiraishi had her sights in lead climbing. In October 2012, she ascended Red River Gorge’s Southern Smoke 5.14c (8c+) sport route.

That year, she parted ways with her coach, Obe Carrion, following a dispute between her father and Carrion. Her father, thus, took over her training.
Between 2013 and 2015, Ashima Shiraishi continued to excel as she engaged in bouldering and lead climbing while creating multiple records, such as being the youngest climber to ascend a 5.14d/5.15a (9a/9a+) router after she scaled the Ciudad de Dios.
In 2015, Ashima Shiraishi emerged victorious in the IFSC World Youth Championships Female Youth B category for Lead climbing and bouldering.
She complimented that accomplishment with her successful ascent of Mount Hiei Horizon (8C/V15) in March 2016.
